In a world that is constantly changing day after day, from a pandemic-free world to one that's now laced with every bit of it, to evolving technology and all, a number of things are being revisited and revised.
As often said, information is power. But I'll put it to you that staying informed is liberating. The many advantages of being informed cannot be overemphasized as it affords one the luxury and confidence of speech.
Recently, a friend asked me some questions that had me consulting the 'brainy' side of me (chuckles). These are his exact words "Does having an old knowledge about something without updating oneself about anything new in relation to that particular thing okay?". You'd agree with me that this is a straightforward question. It's not a 'yes/no' answer but still simple to answer.
So what was my reply? You'd want to ask that, right? Well, for one, any individual that's productivity-driven would not bank on a certain knowledge for a long while. The world evolves day in, day out. Many discoveries are being made from time to time. There are things that weren't in existence some years ago that are now everywhere. Yes?
Ignorance is said to be a disease, I agree. But 'demented' knowledge about a particular subject is an infirmity. You can't expect to use the same method that was used to solve a problem in the 90s to work in this new age. That even seems farfetched. Take, for instance, the English words that are literally changing under our nose. One day, the word 'guy' used to be an eponym and from there it referred to 'a frightful image' but now, it refers to men generally. Same as how 'hussy' used to mean a respectable housewife and not what it is now termed as.
As a student, writing a test and providing the outdated solutions as answers is a pathway to failure. So how then do you update your brain? Endeavour to use the latest textbook publication, lay off every dependence on old materials, there's a reason why you have search engines on your phone, use it! There are various student-friendly blogs out there just like www.campusbuddy.com to help find your way around. They aren't just there as a figurehead.
In addition, relevance is the key to creativity. To be on top of your games, you need to keep up with happenings around the world. Surf the net, engage Wikipedia, gather as much information as possible. Keep your brain on the tail. Equip it with new data. These are a few ways that ensures one is relevant and not oblivious of new developments.
So on this note, I'd like to make a premise. Let's assume Mr A has been to an organization (let's say X) 7/5 years ago and Mrs B and Mrs A were engaging in a discourse about the organization (X). Due to the fact that Mr A had been to the organization before, he persisted on using the old knowledge he has about the organization to judge it. So now, out of Mr A and Mr B, who do you think would win if it were an argument? Remember a young mind is prone to comfortably beat 'an old mind' hands down in a subject of discourse.
