AGAINST ALL ODDS episode 2

Let's get back to our story 

Two years after the death of chief Odeshina the family had moved on with their lives.Tayo had completed his secondary school education but kike was still in ss2. She had to retake a year because she wasn't too good academically. Everything was going on fine until one day.  Mrs Odeshina received a call from the manager of her late husbands farm. He said some people wanted to see her...... 

Since the death of chief Odeshina, one of his top trusted managers who also happened to be Mrs Odeshinas nephew had been running the farm. He paid the workers monthly and remitted the profit to Mrs Odeshina and her in-laws. Mrs Odeshina also began selling some farm produce which she got from the farm just to keep herself busy.....

She went to the farm immediately due to the urgency in the tone of the manager. On getting there she got the shock of her life. Two men came to the farm with some documents showing that chief Odeshinas younger brother had sold the farm to them. She couldn't believe her ears she was totally devastated. 

Though it was really painful for her. On getting home she tried her best to keep it secret from her children but Tayo noticed that the countenance of his mother had changed. Two days later while kikelomo had gone out with her friends Tayo went to his mothers room. He met her sitting and staring into the space. She didn't notice him until he put his hands on her shoulder.... 

"Mum what is wrong ?"

She tried to fake a smile but it was too late...

"oh Tayo you are here. Nothing is wrong "

"No mum. For the past few days you've been very moody and it's unlike u" 

She knew he was not going to give up easily so she had no choice but to tell him ....

"hmm.. Sit son "

Tayo already had that feeling like a bomb was about to be dropped on him because he knew that anything that made his mum sad must be really bad..... 

"your uncle has sold out your fathers farm " 

It sounded strange in his ears. He didn't even know that his uncle had the power to do that.... 

"mum how is that possible ?"

" He is your fathers next of kin and he has all the documents "

At this point his mother was already in tears and he was filled with anger. He stood up and ran straight to his uncles house. He met him drinking and laughing with his friends in the compound. He confronted him about the farm and his uncles words almost threw him off balance 

" You people should be happy I allowed you for two years.  If I was a wicked person I would I've sold it ever before now. Your foolishness made you think you could enjoy what is not yours forever....Well I've made an arrangement to send you people a token just so you don't die of hunger.... Now leave my house and never step foot here again " 

His uncles words hit him like stones. He boiled with anger and felt like strangling the beast but he controlled his anger and went back home in tears. He locked himself up in his room and cried out his eyes. He wished his father was alive.  As he thought of a solution to the problem,  he remembered that his father had an elder sister who lived in the town. He decided to go and see her perhaps she could help. When he told his mother of his intentions she couldn't oppose to it because she herself didn't know of a better solution 

Early the next day, Tayo set out to the town to visit his aunt.  He explained the whole issue to her but little did he know that she had also conived with his uncle to sell the land. She told him to be a man and be ready to fend for himself and his family. She even lied that it was his father's instruction before he died and she promised to visit them from time to time ...... Tayo had to leave for the village that same day though he didn't plan to. He couldn't bring himself to sleep under the same roof with such a wicked person... On his way home he thought about why people could be so cruel even to their own blood. He remembered vividly that it was his father that got his aunt a job in the town few years ago when she lost her husband... He finally got home very late in the night while everyone was asleep, he laid on his bed and slept off with the scary thought of how to break the news to his mother in the morning
