AGAINST ALL ODDS

Episode one 

The silence in the air that day spoke a thousand words. And the look on everyone's face asked only one question "why do bad things happen to good people? "  Even a deaf man didn't need to be told that the whole village was mourning . The markets were scanty and the streets looked deserted even the birds of the air were silent... Hmm iku mu eni Ire lo (death has taken away a good person). All this was in okeku village one of the small villages in Ibadan, Nigeria where death had poured hot cold on everyone.  The cry of sorrow began from the family of the Odeshinas. Chief Odeshina popularly know as baba gbogbowa  (everybody's father) was dead.  

                                                                      

No one felt as sorrowful as tayo chief Odeshinas first and only son. He wept bitterly and neither ate nor drank. He sat in a corner 

of his room reflecting and thinking why death took his father but no one could answer. His aunts and uncles kept knocking at his door begging him to take heart but he wouldn't listen...... 

Chief Odeshina was a renowned farmer he had one of the biggest farms in the village. He was also a philiantrophist. He was known for helping the poor and needy. This made a lot of people to love him. He was married to Mrs Odeshina a very gentle and easy going woman and they had two children Tayo who was 17 years and kikelomo who was 13 years. Chief Odeshina fell ill about two months ago . He was diagnosed with cancer. The family tried their best to keep him and he seemed to be getting better until he slept one night and never woke up again to see the daylight 

Few days later chief Odeshina was buried in the village cemetery. The burial scene was a very sorrowful one people wept bitterly as the casket was lowered into the earth but tears couldn't just bring back the dead. Tayo couldn't hold back his tears as he paid his last respect to his father. After the whole burial Tayo went into his room and laid on his bed staring at the ceiling. He hadn't eaten for two days. Just as he was still thinking he heard the door to his room open. He was angry at himself for forgetting to lock the door behind him. His father's only younger brother walked in and sat beside him tapping him to sit up ......

"Good evening uncle "

"How are you Tayo"

He couldn't say he was fine because he knew he definitely wasn't fine.....

"hmm I know how u feel Tayo. I know how hurtful it can be to lose ones father so suddenly and at such a very young age as yours. But it's the reality u have to face now....... Your father is gone now and tears can't get him back..... More so you are his only son. You have your mother and sister to look after because you are the man of the house now..... If you keep crying like this what do u expect them to do.....  Cheer up son God gives and takes away and he has decided to take your father be sure it's for the best.... "

Somehow his uncles words managed to creep into his heart and he was a little bit comforted. More so his uncle told him not to bother about how they would survive because his father had left quite a good fortune for them. After sometime Tayo got over the death of his father he consoled his mother and sister and they moved on with life.
